The new Cooper S engine is BMW’s B48 engine, which produces 189hp and 207lb-ft. of torque. In 2020 Mini launched a John Cooper Works GP, a track-focused version of the Cooper S. The JCW GP also uses the 2.0L B48, but produces 302hp and 332lb-ft. of torque. The Mini Cooper S and JCW GP engines only differ in a few different categories.

Ha! Someone really needs to sue MINI over the faulty electric power steering pumps in their 1st generation MINIs as well. There are a huge number of complaints about them on the NHTSA website. Mine nearly killed me when it failed while I was going around a hairpin corner at speed on a twisty road.
